Here's where you can find out a little more about some of our valued associates, who average 17 years in the A/V business and 12 years with ListenUp.
Store Manager
As someone from a state just slightly larger than a good sized amplifier, it’s only natural that Rhode Island native Bob Murphy would end up in the audio/video biz. After working in an audio store and then as a manufacturer’s rep for several years, Bob joined the ListenUp staff in 1981 and was instrumental in opening the Boulder store. He subsequently moved to the Denver location in the mid-eighties and helped start the video division, which specialized in laser discs, front projectors and surround sound — all before the term “home theater” had even been coined.
Missing the smell of patchouli, Bob came back to the Boulder store in 1990, and he’s now the store manager. “The industry continues to be fun and interesting to me. I enjoy coming to work every day — it’s fun to face new challenges, and to stay ahead of the latest technologies.” And all while living in the wide open spaces…

Custom Sales Manager
Though he’s the “new guy” at our Boulder store, Jeff Woolbright is certainly not new to the electronics business. In fact, he was born into it. His father owned an outfit in DeKalb, Illinois that originally did installations of antennae and satellite systems and then branched out into other types of custom installations. Jeff worked for his Dad’s company and then ran the business for seven years before he and his wife decided to head west. Jeff says they love it out here so far, and he’s very enthusiastic about his new gig.
“I guess because it’s what I’m used to, but I always go to a client’s house before I sell them a system. I want to see exactly what their setup is. And, of course, I go to the home after the sale to make sure everything is working properly. I like working for ListenUp because I know I can get any piece of equipment I need to make the system better. Whether it’s a product we sell all the time or one we don’t normally sell, ListenUp will get it to keep the customer satisfied.” Sounds like Jeff is fitting right in.

Sales Consultant
Originally from the Crescent City (that’s New Orleans for all you Yankees), Matt Alterman has been in the A/V business practically his whole life, as his father opened Alterman Audio in Metairie, LA back in 1973.
“I wore all the hats back in New Orleans,” says Matt. “I’ve been a delivery person, installer, salesperson, bookkeeper, and install manager. After Katrina our entire install staff left, and I was left holding the bag and forced into a managing it all. To make matters worse, EVERYONE needed new gear after their houses were ruined, and they all wanted it installed practically at the same time. Very tall task, especially with a skeleton crew.”
Working at ListenUp has proved to be a nice change of pace. “I like the fact that we have so much support here,” he says. “I needed a break from all the different responsibilities, and since I hadn’t worked for anyone else in the A/V industry my entire life, I wanted to see how other institutions managed the complexity of juggling sales, installs, service and marketing.”
Matt’s experience in even includes dealing with an angry mob. “My Dad once ran an advertisement for black Friday and mistakenly marked the price of the Sony Grand Wega at $777 instead of $1777. I opened the store that morning and had to inform about 20 people, some of whom had been waiting there all night, that there was a misprint in the paper. Not very pleasant,” he laughs.
In his spare time, Matt likes to snowboard, cook, and go to live concerts.
