JVC WOOD Masterpiece True Wireless Earbuds: A ListenUp Review
I got excited when I heard we were getting the JVC WOOD Masterpiece earbuds in. I have used a number of different headphones and earbuds over the years, but I haven’t really experienced wood diaphragm technology. The WOOD Masterpiece left me with some good impressions and some tweaks I would make.

As mentioned previously, I have listened to many different headphones, IEMs, and earbuds - Focal, JVC, Dan Clark, Campfire Audio, 64 Audio, Audeze, Meze and more. What I haven't listened to much is an earbud with a wood diaphragm. I picked out some albums instead of tracks to really dive deep into what makes the JVC WOOD Masterpiece earbuds special. Here is what I found.
Sinatra – Live at The Sands
- What stood out: This was my “I’m actually there” moment. When I closed my eyes, I could point to the stage - each instrument had a clear place, with strong left-to-right separation and believable depth
- Vocals + timbre: Frank’s voice came through crystal clear with a natural, unmistakable tone that felt human, not processed
- Bass & EQ behavior: In FLAT EQ, the upright bass hit a little stronger than I wanted at first. After a few small EQ tweaks, I dialed it in and the mix felt more balanced without losing weight.
Cory Wong – Wong Air (Live in America 2025)

What stood out: Cory’s guitar tone shined. I could hear the depth, the bite, and the quick accents with every pluck - great texture and articulation.

AAC vs LDAC: I tested “Pure Imagination” in AAC and LDAC and there was definitely a quality jump with LDAC. That said, I still wanted a little more out of LDAC (not bad - just left me wanting that last bit of “wow” depending on the track).

Imaging & soundstage: The horn and woodwind section wrapped around Cory in a way that felt organized and immersive - this is where the WOOD Masterpiece’s “space” and separation clicked for me.
- Comfort/fatigue: I listened to the full 1hr 13min set with no ear fatigue or discomfort, which is a big win for long sessions.
Of The Trees – Tanglewood
- What stood out: This is where the low end got too heavy for me in FLAT EQ - instantly had to switch back to my adjusted EQ
- Bass management: If you’re listening to bass-heavy electronic music, expect to spend some time in the app. Once I tuned it, I got to a place where I was more than happy with the sound

Texture & layering: Even with the bass push, I still heard good texture and detail in the layers - those smaller sounds didn’t completely disappear once the EQ was under control.
Thad Jones – Consummation
- What stood out: This is where everything came together. Thad’s trumpet rang out like I was in the studio with him - clean, vibrant, and alive.
- Imaging moment: Hearing the trumpet come through my right ear while the reverb bloomed on the left is something I look forward to every time I listen to this album.
- Instrument placement: Everyone sounded like they were “in their spot,” which is exactly what I want from premium true wireless earbuds - solid imaging without turning everything into a blob.
My Takeaways

Out of the box, the provided EQ settings felt bass-forward. If you stick to FLAT for everything, some tracks may come on strong down low.
- If you like to tweak EQ, you’ll have fun. The JVC app lets you shape the sound, and these earbuds reward you when you take the time to tune them.
- Genre match: If you love jazz, classic rock, orchestral, and anything with vocals + real instruments, the WOOD Masterpiece tuning philosophy makes a lot of sense. Electronic music can sound great too - just plan on some EQ adjustment to match your preferences.
