At ListenUp, we’re passionate about delivering the best in audio, video, and home technology—but we know that lighting can truly transform a space. That’s why, from April 22–24, 2025, we hosted a special edition of our SmartXplained series—bringing together top talent, brand partners, and design professionals for an immersive three-day lighting learning experience.
The highlight of the workshop was a dynamic Lunch & Learn session led by internationally acclaimed lighting designer Peter Romaniello, IALD. Peter shared his deep expertise on lighting design strategies—from evaluating lighting plans and selecting the right fixtures to implementing layered lighting techniques that elevate the aesthetics and function of any space.
With a room full of builders, designers, architects, and ListenUp team members, Peter's session struck a chord. His emphasis on design-first thinking resonated across the board, reinforcing the critical role of lighting in the residential environment.
Throughout the three day workshop, attendees also participated in interactive sessions led by ListenUp’s valued vendor partners, who shared their latest innovations and demonstrated real-world applications of their products. Brands such as Lutron, DMF, WAC, Proluxe, Savant, and Lucietta each brought unique perspectives and hands-on demonstrations to the table.
From Lutron’s advanced control systems to DMF’s modular downlights, WAC’s bold fixture designs, and ProLuxe’s architectural lighting solutions—attendees gained a comprehensive view of the latest trends in lighting technology. Savant showcased smart integration possibilities, while Lucietta wrapped up with a compelling take on human-centric lighting approaches.
These vendor-led sessions flowed seamlessly, encouraging meaningful dialogue and a deeper understanding of how to align product solutions with design intent and client needs.
With over 25 ListenUp staff members participating in each session and a packed Lunch & Learn audience of builders and designers, the energy was undeniable. We built new connections, strengthened vendor relationships, and created space for some great conversations about the future of lighting in home design.
The feedback from our builder and designer attendees spoke volumes. One participant shared:
“This was full of practical knowledge you can’t just Google. It had to come from an expert—and it did.”
Participants expressed a strong desire for more design-focused content, interactive demos, and longer sessions with lighting experts like Peter Romaniello. The call for expanded education in this space has been heard—and we're already exploring ways to make future SmartXplained events even more impactful.
The overwhelming success of this workshop confirms what we’ve known all along—there’s a real appetite for deeper, more integrated design education in the home technology space. As we look ahead, ListenUp remains committed to growing the SmartXplained series and creating platforms where technology, design, and innovation come together.
