Absolutely loving my Model 40n! Teamed it up with the new Bowers and Wilkins 603 S2 tower speakers in my cozy living room. Positioned about 10 feet from my couch against the wall, with the speakers 18 inches away, the setup creates an incredible sound stage. Despite not being a tech ****, the amp's intuitive setup made things a breeze. Opting for a hardwired connection to the router boosted sound resolution, and turning off Bluetooth post-initial setup reduced electronic noise (though I couldn't really discern any without these tweaks). Streaming Tidal through HEOS, integrated into the 40n, is fantastic! While most reviews pair it with 700 series B&W speakers, my 603 S2 Anniversary edition speakers shine with this amp. Highly recommend for streaming or pure analog mode with a turntable, especially given the excellent value at a $2500.00 price point. Go grab one; you won't be disappointed!

In general, the 40N stands out as a solid amplifier. It carries a warm tonal character with impressive, rounded bass. However, the vocals, while clear, lack some energy and bite, appearing slightly recessed as if positioned behind the plane of speakers. This midrange tuning extends to instruments like electric guitar, introducing a subtle rounding and smoothness that diminishes the desired energy, especially when playing familiar guitar riffs. While the amp is undoubtedly musical, the midrange tuning takes away some excitement in certain genres. It has its appeal, but I find myself wishing Marantz had taken a less aggressive approach in tuning the mids.
