The R-series Monitor is a culmination of S-series patented technology with materials developed from the ground up in every part of the design just like it’s big brothers. The R5m is a true Chameleon with enough bass extension to offer an amazing 2 channel experience, the heart of a reference level 2.1 system, the LCR for a home theater, or surrounds in that monster R-series System. The option for a fully vented full range experience or a sealed enclosure, help transform this speaker to adapt to any system.
As with all Perlisten loudspeakers, the R5m is centred around the DPC array, comprising of three 26mm soft domes in a vertical array. The centre dome is the HF unit, covering frequencies above 4.4kHz. The output from this unit is controlled on the horizontal plane to reduce dispersion to focus on the listening position, and reducing HF reflection from side walls. Vertically, its output is highly controlled, vastly reducing floor and ceiling reflections.
The flanking 26mm midrange domes cover between 1.25kHz and 4.4kHz, producing a more responsive midrange that is far less coloured by what would conventionally be a larger driver.
The DPC array sits between two 6.5" drivers covering from 1.25kHz downwards. Both bass drivers are ported out at the rear of the cabinet. These ports can be fully plugged, providing the performance of a sealed, acoustic suspension cabinet. This results in a more even frequency response across its range.
Used in sealed mode as a bass limited monitor, as you would most likely do in a multi-channel home theatre set up with a subwoofer, the R5m will cover 80Hz-20kHz within a very narrow +/-1.5dB deviation, and produce a peak output of 113.2dB.
All of this tech helps the R5m achieve a THX Dominus rating, capable of effortlessly filling large rooms with cinema levels of sound quality. Used in ported mode, the R5m will still achieve a THX Ultra rating.
With a THX Dominus rating and a bass extension down to 37Hz, the R5m is at home in both 2.1 channel systems and bigger.
