The C 399 can be easily upgraded to the C 399-BluOS by purchasing the user installable MDC2-BluOs-D module.
The C 399-BluOS includes the Bluesound multi-room music streaming and Dirac Live room correction. Equipped with Wi-Fi and Ethernet the MDC2 BluOS-D module, that is included with the C 399-BluOS and is optional for the standard C 399, lets listeners play music from their favorite streaming services through the C 399, using the acclaimed BluOS Controller app for Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows. Like all BluOS-enabled products, the MDC2 BluOS-D has integrated support for dozens of streaming services; and supports Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, and Tidal Connect. Two-way communications also enable the MDC2 BluOS-D to stream music from sources connected to the C 399 to BluOS-enabled components in other rooms.
The Dirac Live feature enables precise room acoustics measurement using a provided microphone and intuitive app, enhancing bass clarity, imaging, and timbral accuracy by uploading correction curves to the MDC2 BluOS-D, ensuring room correction for all connected sources to the C 399. Employing NAD’s Hypex HybridDigital nCore amplifier circuitry, the C 399 delivers 180 Watts per channel continuous power, and 250 Watts per channel instantaneous power, along with a 32-bit/384kHz ESS Sabre DAC for stunning musicality, while accommodating various digital and analogue sources with its MM phono stage, two-way apt-X HD Bluetooth, and dedicated headphone amplifier, showcasing NAD’s commitment to delivering unparalleled audio performance.
Products like the C399 demonstrate that in the right hands high performance and high value, far from being mutually exclusive, are matches that really do seem to be made in heaven.
The C399 is an excellent value as an integrated amplifier. It is able to drive my 702S2’s very well, which is something very few amplifiers in this price range can accomplish. There is great purity to the response, and no sign at all that the unit is at all being pushed. If there is a significant lack , it’s documentation, or the lack there of. The BluOs integration is easy, once you understand the sequence. You need to download the BluOs controller onto a comparable device. The controller will then pair and update the C399 module. The device needs to be very close to the C399. The Dirac system again requires a download. The included microphone is then placed at several points to create a correction file. You can choose to use it or not. Nothing is permanent. The key to success here is to use a tripod so that each measurement is in free air. The “manual” recommends this, but it should be mandatory. If you place the mic on absorptive material, like a couch, it will absorb low frequencies, and Dirac will grossly boost them in an attempt to compensate.
