Facing the Rockies, This residence, sits with a breathtaking view overlooking Buffalo Mountain and Devils Head lookout in Castle Rock, CO. The retrofit custom integration project by ListenUp, is a complete Control4 controlled project with whole home Control4 lighting, Hunter Douglas shade, Control4 touch panels and door station, Bowers and Wilkins flush mount loudspeakers, and Control4 and Arcam amplification. The Daihls have two home theater areas; one downstairs and one in Eds office. Alexa voice control is also used throughout the home. The Daihl's were wanting to integrate their home seamlessly and wanted to make sure their wiring and proof-of-technology were well hidden from the naked eye, aesthetically integrated into the architecture of the home.

TV Selection

Liking the idea that technology can be art, the owners chose Samsung "Frame" TVs for the main design areas, family room, master bedroom, and the "mother-in-law" suite. Each Frame is a fully functioning 4K TV when turned on, and a piece of customizable artwork when turned off.

Hidden Equipment

All of the heavy equipment lives in a main level closet in a rack thats easily serviceable, yet out of view. The ListenUp team recommended PakEdge Routers with Backpak to monitor the network, with offline alerts and access to manage the owner's Access Network Ruckus wireless access points. This configuration allows ListenUp to remotely fix most network issues without an in-home service call.

System Control

Control of the whole system is two-fold. A 10" touch panel in the kitchen shows all of the icons for audio/video, lighting, HVAC, Hunter Douglas shades, and security, along with access to Alexa voice control. Everyday control is done by thinking of an action, like 'Watch TV,' or 'Listen to Pandora,' again either using the physical Control4 remote, touch panels or voice." This same control is consistent in all rooms of their home. Additionally, Bowers and Wilkins ceiling speakers are painted to match the ceiling, where they can sound clear and clean without being noticed, and REL Habitat subwoofers in white are hung from the wall behind furniture for great bass.
