In my 47 years in the audio industry, I consider the introduction of the compact disc to be unquestionably one of the most significant advancements in consumer audio history. Think about it. When CDs arrived, we could finally enjoy our favorite music without the pops, clicks, and surface noise that seemed inherent to vinyl playback at the time. Gone was the tape hiss that we worked so hard to control with Dolby and dbx noise reduction systems. Suddenly, we had access to clean, dynamic sound with remarkable consistency, not to mention the convenience of instantly skipping tracks! Now, don't get me wrong. I have tremendous appreciation for vinyl, high-resolution digital audio, and modern music streaming. But I also own a collection of several hundred CDs, many of which I have no intention of replacing or abandoning. That's why I applaud NAD for introducing the C 569 CD Player. It's refreshing to see a respected high-fidelity manufacturer recognize that physical media still matters and that a serious CD collection deserves a serious playback component.
