The new Planar 3 elevates its design with a lightweight acrylic laminated plinth fortified by an enhanced double brace system strategically placed to enhance rigidity, minimizing energy absorption and resonance for pristine sound reproduction. By focusing on key areas with double thickness phenolic resin braces, this innovative approach reduces plinth weight while effectively mitigating unwanted energy transfer, ensuring a cleaner audio experience devoid of distortions.

Rega Planar 3 Turntable (No Cartridge)
Replacing the acclaimed RP3, which was the recipient of multiple What Hi-Fi? Product of the Year awards, posed a formidable challenge. Lead by Rega's Roy Gandy, our team of designers dedicated two years to crafting the all-new 'Planar 3,' marking the most extensive redesign in the history of the iconic 'Three' model. The 'Planar 3' emerges as a completely revamped turntable, retaining only two components from its predecessor.
Rega has long been at the forefront of lightweight yet sturdy plinth construction. Leveraging a combination of lightweight particulate core and a resilient phenolic resin skin laid the groundwork for the exceptional performance of the original Planar range.
The new Planar 3 elevates this design ethos to unprecedented heights. Its lightweight acrylic laminated plinth is fortified with an enhanced double brace system strategically positioned to bolster rigidity between the tonearm mounting and the main hub bearing, forming a robust "stressed beam" structure. This design effectively mitigates energy absorption and unwanted resonance, preventing distortions in the music. Moreover, by focusing reinforcement in key areas rather than the entire surface, double thickness phenolic resin is utilized, reducing plinth weight and addressing issues of mass absorption and energy transmission.
