All that technology is backed up by an impressive sonic performance with sparklingly precise transients, crisp dialogue and a spacious, well-balanced soundstage. The A6A is one of the most responsive, clean and dynamic-sounding AVRs we’ve heard at this price
Hear every sound, see every detail. The A6A has been carefully designed so every element of your entertainment is the best it can be. From slight whispers of sound to swift, on-screen movements, the A6A ensures you won’t miss a thing.
The nine-channel RX-A6A is ideal for powering a 5.1.4 Dolby Atmos or DTS:X™ system — that's the traditional five speakers and subwoofer configuration, plus two pairs of upward-firing or in-ceiling speakers for overhead sound effects.
Yamaha made sure the RX-A6A is compatible with the latest video technology. All seven of its HDMI inputs support 4K/60Hz content — perfect for high-quality sources like a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player or an Apple TV. (HDMI 2.1 features will be enabled with a free future firmware update.)
Yamaha has a solution for rooms that don't easily support running wire to surround speakers, and it's awesome. Use their MusicCast 50 or MusicCast 20 wireless speakers as your surround channels, and skip running speaker wire across your room. (You'll still need to connect the speakers to AC power.)
You get plenty of options for playing music, too. Stream tunes from your phone or tablet through Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or Apple AirPlay 2. Or, use the built-in phono input to connect your turntable. You can even play high-resolution tracks from a USB thumb drive or networked computer.
As a bonus, the RX-A6A also supports wireless multi-room music playback when paired with additional MusicCast components.
Fabulous! I replaced an older Yamaha RX-V639 with the RX-A6 so that I would have all preamplifier output jacks to power external amplifiers. This aspect of the purchase was great, but what we didn't expect were the absolutely amazing increase in video quality with all forms of entertainment. The delicate nuances to audio are phenomenal. Instrument placement is better, sounds that occur outside of the camera seem to float across our family room, and sounds that occur behind us without having a pair of surround back speakers. We're delighted about the amazing Settings and Options menus are great! We love that the display can be turned completely off for movies and registering Scenes in this newer AVR are such a dream! Creating Scenes in older Yamaha AVR's has always been a bit dicey and required extreme attention-to-detail: In the new Scene registration, Yamaha has made registering Scenes super-easy. Just select the input you want to watch, then select the sound-field, then hold the Scene you want to register those choices for a few seconds, than Voila! Perfect! We own a lot of McIntosh audio gear, but for movies, sound-field selection, and the overall increase in video resolution and audio quality, this purchase yields more positive benefits that any other piece of audio gear in our theater. We strongly recommend the new Yamaha series of Aventage audio-video products!
