This is the first receiver that I've owned that will cleanly play louder than I can handle. I wasn't even sure that threshhold existed! I'm running a 5.4 set up with towers for all bed layer speakers and smaller surrounds for all heights. And oh my God, this will deliver the goods. My Atmos finalyyyyyy sounds like it's supposed to, I rarely liked the way Atmos music tracks sounded until now. Now, I'm not sure I would want to listen to non-Atmos tracks for very long. It just sounds so good.
It sounds like sitting on the stage with the musicians performing all around you.
As far as Atmos movies go, everything has been taken to a whole new level. I thought my old Pioneer Elite 302 sounded pretty good but the clarity, depth, and separation was nothing compared to this. Dirac has tightened up my bass and timed it perfectly between all speakers. That was something I had struggled trying to accomplish myself for years and just never really could quite get there. I thought maybe my subs were just not quick enough, but nope, it was just needing a computer (Dirac) to do what I couldn't.
One thing of note: Dirac did not level match my speakers as well as it probably should have. This is one setting that you can correct manually and using a DB meter, I dialed them in to all level match.
I really can't imagine my setup sounding any better than it does now. For once, I am fully satisfied and hope it lasts for a long time.
